Dead Zone (1981, R, 103)

Christopher Walken is awesome.  He plays a man who has a “gift” to see how people will die.  This movie is based off of a Stephen King.  It is good and started a television series.  It is older, but everything could still be applied today.  It is good, not great.

Wrong Turn 5 (2012, R, 91)

Doug Bradley is the main character in this movie.  It is really fun to see him without the Pin Face.  Other than that this movie is still good.  The inbred are able to terrorize the people left behind in a small town.  The others of the town are celebrating the past of the inbred for Halloween.  Wrong Turn was able to do it again.

Graveyard Shift (1990, R, 89)

Graveyard Shift is a Stephen King about a textiles factory that is over-run with rats.  It has the Stephen King feel, but not the best of his.  It is a little lame with killer rats.  Even though it is killer rats, there is still some mystery and suspense.  As for a 1990 movie, it was great.

Outpost: Black Sun (2012, R, 101)

 After watching Dead Snow there was curiosity in another Nazi zombie movie.  There was no comparison, Black Sun fails.  The zombies are more like super solders than zombies.  The movie seems to have it that way as well.  The story was pretty slow to start and only mildly gets better. 

Halloween 5 (1989, R, 96)

The fight of Michael and Jamie continues.  This Halloween continues with the greatness that is the Halloween franchise.

From Dusk till Dawn (1996, R, 108)

From Dusk till Dawn is deep in the Quentin Tarantino feel.  It is twisted, bloody, sexual,   funny, scary, all that.  It has an all-star cast and is quite entertaining, if you like Tarantino.  Some consider this a classic of the mixed horror.

Orphanage (2007, R, 105)

Even with Spanish subtitles, this movie is a great ghost story.   The story is one of a women searching for her lost child and people start thinking she is going crazy.  It was creepy and had some jumps.  The subtitles were not too hard to follow and you get a sense of accomplishment after watching a movie in another language.

Devil’s Backbone (2001, R, 106)

Devil’s Backbone is in Spanish and does have subtitles.  This movie is not great, a little creepy, a little sad, but add the subtitles and it makes it lesser.  The story was more complex, which made the subtitles more difficult. 

Dark Half (1995, R, 122)

This is a Stephen King that does not get enough attention.  Sure it is a little cheesy, but it has the Stephen King feel and is twisted.  The thought of your inner self being evil or is it the twin your body absorbed in the womb.  This Stephen King needs more attention.

No Tell Motel (2012, NR, 84)

This movie had a certain creepy touch, which was good.  The rest of the movie was awful.  Chance played a huge part in everything and it ended up making the movie pretty lame.  The movie even acknowledges that everything falls into place, but it still sucks.  There is a “twist” ending.  It really comes down to the story was too much.

Reaping (2007, R, 99)

Reaping is about a woman, Hilary Swank, who debunks religious miracles.  Before that she was an ordained minister.  She is working on a “miracle” where the town is blaming a little girl for the plague.  This movie was pretty good considering the content and wasn’t too long. 

Terminator 2 (1991, R, 137)

The early Terminators are classics.  This one Arnold is back, but this time he is helping the Conner’s.  It has a good cast, action, good story, Arnold when he was young, and much more.  Terminator 2 may be a little cheesy, but in a great early 90’s sort of way.

Motel Hell (1980, R, 101)

This movie is awful, having stated that, it is somewhat amusing.  A family owned motel sells homemade beef jerky.  Naturally they start getting drifters and farming them.  It is way lame and cheesy.  What do you expect from a horror movie named Motel Hell from 1980?

Jurassic Park (1993, PG-13, 127)

Jurassic Park likely would not be considered “horror” by most of us, but for pre-teens it could be considered quite scary.  Dinosaurs have come to life with their DNA.  On an island a wealthy man decides to make his dinosaur island a family attraction.  His first few visitors come to test and give opinion of Jurassic Park.  Obviously things go very wrong.  This movie will give you some jumps and thrill, regardless of your age.

AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004, PG-13, 101)

Spoiler Alert!

This movie had high hopes combining two greats, however the title is misleading.  It should have been called Alien vs. Predators and Humans.  At the end a hybrid of Alien and Predator is created, which saves the movie a little.  Without Predator and Humans collaborating, this movie might have been okay.

Demon Knight (1995, R, 92)

Demon Knight is one of the Tales from the Crypt stories.  It has gore, sex, religious reference, humor, silliness, and everything that usually comes with Tales from the Crypt.  It has a great cast and is fun if you like the TV series.
