Strangeland (1998, R, 85)

Although this movie is from the 90’s, it is still worth it today.  Girls go to meet someone they met on the internet, but it is not who they thought.  It is a painful movie, so not for the weak stomach.

Turistas (2006, R, 93)

A group of Americans go to Brazil.  They get kidnapped like so many other movies.  It is nothing new and not the best of what is out in this category.  It isn’t horrible, just not great.

Hannibal Rising (2007, R 121)

Hannibal Lecture is a great character.  This movie does a great job showing his childhood and how he became what he is now.  The story line was intriguing and it had the aspects of the other Hannibal Lecture stories.  It overall is a great movie.

Silent Hill Revelation (2012, R, 94)

The visuals are good and scary, but overall this movie is more of the same old.

Scary Movie aka Scary Movie 5 (2013, PG-13, 86)

This movie pushes all the limits to keep it to PG-13.  In face I was surprised it wasn’t R anyway.  It is definitely the worse Scary Movie and a disappointment.

Conjuring (2013, R, 112)

This movie is rated R for content.  It doesn’t have R rated violence, language, or anything like that.  It is based on a true story, which always makes it fun.  It was pretty creepy. The story, acting, and all that makes for a great movie.

House (1986, R, 93)

House is a great 80’s cheesy classic, so don’t expect some Oscar award winner.

Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 (1990, TV-14, 80)

Likely the worse one, but Viggo Mortensen is fun.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994, R, 95)

Not the best, but it has Matthew McConaughey.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986, UR, 89)

TCM2 makes for more of a cult classic following.  It has humor and just plain silliness, but still has blood and screaming..,

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974, R, 83)

An obvious classic, TCM is the starting point of the rest to come.  It is a great slasher story.  It is loosely based on the life of Ed Gein, very loose, but still awesome.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003, R, 98)

This remake was pretty good, a basic updating of the original.

Haunted House (2013, R, 86)

I like the Wayans brothers…  This movie was just that bad.  It did not have the material for 86 minutes.  Most of the skits were just turning the original into some perverted mess.   Some is funny, but it was over the top.

Awakening (2011, R, 106)

This is a British ghost thriller movie.  Knowing that, I was worried it would be quite boring, but it was a pretty good ghost story...

House on Haunted Hill (1959, NR, 74)

Vincent Price is great in this Classic thriller.  Well worth a watch.  Even my children sat down and Stayed to watch.  It is also quick if you have a hard time with the black and whites.

Sharknado (2013, TV, 86)

Sharknado (2013, TV, 86)

I think the title really says it all.  It makes you wonder, but you really know it doesn’t make sense.  So if you get past the title, realizing it will be ridiculous, continue watching.  It is so bad it is entertaining.

Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker (2002, R, 89)

Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker (2002, R, 89)

The thing with Hellraiser is they really work on changing the story up on sequels.  This one is about a man who doesn’t remember what or why.  It is one of my favorite stories for Hellraiser.

The Bay (2012, R, 85)

I stayed awake for the entire movie.  Not sure why I did that!

Evil Dead (2013, R, 91)

Remaking Evil Dead has me torn.  Evil Dead was not great for me.  Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness however, were some of the best movies Ever made!  To remake it and to be scary worried me.  I have to say, they did an excellent job.  They made it close enough to the originals to use the name, but not so close everything would be compared.  It was gory, scary, and fun to have some likeness to the originals.  So after being a hater, I enjoyed Evil Dead (2013).

State of Emergency (2011, NR, 90)

Zombies!  That is it for this movie and there are only a few.  Not the best zombie movie ever and certainly not the worst.  As for the rating, I would say R for violence, but there is not even much of that.

Frozen (2010, R, 93)

I had heard this movie was really good and it had good ratings… for a horror.  It was disappointing.  The story drags and has a “shocking” ending.   The truth of it is, any movie would have issues getting 93 minutes out of this story.  It was not worth a watch.

Dark Skies (2013, PG-13, 97)

Dark Skies was fun and scary.  It was good for kids and adults.  A family is being disturbed by something they cannot explain, which makes it more realistic movie and that makes it scarier.   It is one of the best alien movies in a long time.

Haunting in Connecticut 2 (2013, R, 100)

This is much better than the first.  It is very loosely based on a true story, but that always makes it a little more fun.  It is more of a ghost story then an all-out blood fest.

The Collection (2012, R, 82)

The Collection is Collector 2.  You can see it without seeing the first, but it helps.  It had a decent story and was super gory.  It is perfect for those who liked the Saw movies.

Mimesis (2011, R, 95)

It is rare that someone takes a classic and turns it into something worth watch, but this was good.  It takes groupies and they end up living the movie.  I recommend watching Night of the Living Dead first, but Mimesis was fun even if you have never seen it.

Night of the Living Dead (1968, UR, 96)

This is the original zombie movie.  It is a classic and a great movie.  There is no doubt why it became such an amazing classic.  It is the old black and white, but my kids sat through it, so suck it up!

Hellraiser 8: Hellworld (2005, R, 91)

There is a game of Hellworld that is basically a game of Hellraiser.  A group of friends take the game seriously and one actually dies because of it.  All the friends are then invited to a Hellworld party, which is the main part of the movie.  As usual, it is different from the others, but has a good story and actors.

Hellraiser 7: Deader (2005, R 86)

A journalist is looking into a group called deader.  They believe your body is not real.  They kill themselves then a man brings them back to life.  It has an interesting change from the other Hellraisers, but still has the cenobites quite often.  It was pretty decent.

Séance: The Summoning (2011, R, 85)

This is crap.  They put four young adults in a mortuary, 2 boys and 2 girls.  They release something “awful” and blah blah blah.

Last Exorcism Part 2 (2013, PG-13, 88)

This movie was a disappointment in comparison to the original.  It has some of the same good vs bad aspects that the first has.  It is based in New Orleans, which gives it some voodoo.  BUT it still was only a half rate movie.

Exorcism: the Possession of Gail Bowers (2006, R, 91)

Worst exorcism movie ever.  The plot was awful and jumpy, the acting was bad, filming was bad, just don’t bother with this one.

Sinister (2012, R, 110)

This movie has everyone saying it was so scary.  So expectations were changed.  It is a well-made movie, good actors and acting.  The plot was intriguing and it did give scare and shock.   The make-up on some was pretty plain, but editing helps not to notice.   Overall, this movie was scary and enjoyable!

Fragile (2005, PG-13)

Calista Flockhart, being on Netflix, and a Frightfest is why this movie Was even considered to be watchable.  Actually, it was quite a thriller!  The acting, plot, blah, blah was all well done.  It is PG-13, which is appropriate, but it was hard to watch in parts.

Hotel Transylvania (2012, PG, 91)

Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, Invisible Man, witches, Igor, and all sorts of classic villains come together and make this movie Awesome!  It is great for kids and adults.  The casting, plot, animation, everything was well done.  It is without a doubt, one of the best children friendly “scary” movies.  It is not “scary,” but funny, but introduces children to classic monsters without nightmares.

Afflicted (2012, -, 85)

I started watching this movie based on Kane Hodder’s appearance.  He is not in it long, so if that is your reason, don’t bother.  The movie is about a mother who torchers, even kills her own kids.  It was very sickening and I was about to turn it off, when I remembered it is closely based on a true story.  After looking up the true story I decided to finish.  It was informative on how messed up some people are and what the body and mind can go through and keep on going.  Completely disturbing!

Possession (2012, PG-13, 92)

First, this movie does not have strong swearing, sex, or gore.  But it is Creepy!  A little girl has bought a box from a garage sale and it ends up being a Jewish sacred container containing a demonic spirit.  The actors and graphics were convincing and scary.  The story line kept interest.  Finally, it is about time Christians lose their monopoly on demonic spirits.

Mama (2013, PG-13, 100)

This movie has no strong swearing, gore, or sex.  Trying not to spoil the movie my synopsis may not be crystal clear.  Two young orphan girls are lost in the woods for a few years “alone.”  Once they are found it is noticed the girls have “created” a “Mama” that has taken care of them.  This “Mama” follows them to live with their uncle and weird things happen.  The story was good and very creepy.  This was one of the scariest movies in a while.

Supernatural Activity (2012, -, 90)

An illusionist has a show proving/disproving supernatural happenings.   This is a mock show that has many references to some good movies.  It is somewhat amusing and even funny in parts.  It really pushed for time with what they had and it gets redundant.  Although I did find this movie funny, I was really tired and was able to get the references they made.  The rating is around R, but not officially.

Life Zone (2011, PG-13, 86)

Three women have gone to clinics for abortions.  They are kidnapped and forced to have their babies.  This movie is basically full of propaganda for and against abortion.  Acting was bad, story was weird, not really a horror movie.

Apartment 145 (2011, R, 80)

Apartment 145 is yet another paranormal research movie.  When the investigators come to the house there are some creepy visuals and happenings.  By the end of the movie the makers had run out of ideas and ended it poorly.

Hole (2009, PG-13, 92)

Hole is great for the young teen group.  Two boys move into a house, with their mother, and find a Hole in their basement.  Things come out of the hole to terrorize anyone who sees the hole.  This movie is creepy by visuals.  Hole can be enjoyed by adults as well.

Identity (2003, R, 90)

This movie has a second rate all-star cast.  It is fun to see all the fairly known actors and is quite entertaining.   The story line was a little whimsy, but it ends up fitting together decently.  It has some suspense, thrill, some gore, and has a good ending.

House at the End of the Street (2012, PG-13, 101)

This movie has a great cast.  The story line did well, but gets a little scrabbled at the end.  Over all this movie was just okay, although that may have some to do with keeping at a PG-13 rating.

Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013, R, 92)

One of the best horror films of all time!  This was a great extension of the original!  The blood was everywhere, but wasn’t cheesy.  There was no straight up nudity, but did show some skin including side boob.  The story line was fitting and actually went stronger with the true story of Ed Gein.   This movie was done with research and with quality filming and cast.  The scares were great, continued suspense, gore, Chainsaw, and Family!  A Must See slasher!
